The Green Corridor of Misiones

The Government of the Province of Misiones, in Argentina, is one of the most environmentally enlightened administrations on Earth.
In 1999, legislation was enacted to create El Corredor Verde de la Provincia de Misiones, a huge area of protected land extending from the northernmost tip of the Province almost 200 Km along its central spine and for much of its length extending eastwards to the Brazilian border.

The new Corridor is specified as an ‘Area of conservation and sustainable development’, a definition which does not prevent human use of the land but restricts that use to non-destructive activity.

The map, which shows the extent of the "Green Corridor" is taken from an excellent and colourful leaflet produced by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Misiones.

The Minister and his staff are to be congratulated on their achievement in getting this legislation enacted and thus showing the way forward for other countries, many of which, although wealthier than Argentina, have done far less to conserve their natural resources.
